What I’ve Learned From 80 Day Obsession as a Christian Mom | Faith, Fitness & Balance

Starting 80 Day Obsession has been one of the most challenging – and rewarding – decisions I’ve made recently as a Christian Mom. After having two babies, I found myself carrying an extra 15 pounds that just wouldn’t budge. More than the number on the scale, I wanted to feel strong, confident, and healthy for my husband and kids.

This journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it. As I’m writing this, I’m on day 48 and along the way I’ve learned valuable lessons about discipline, planning, and leaning on my faith – lessons I hope will encourage other moms who are ready to make a change.

Discipline Is a Form of Worship

One of the main reasons I chose 80 Day Obsession was because I wanted a true challenge. I knew I needed something structured and intense to push me past my comfort zone. And let me tell you – it does!

Discipline has become more than just a fitness principle for me; it’s a way to honor God with my body and to model perseverance for my children. “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit… Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

Every day I get up at 5 a.m. to work out before my family wakes, I remind myself I’m not just doing this for me. I’m showing my daughters that consistency and commitment matter. Not everyone has to do it this way, but early mornings give me the quiet and focus I need.

Planning Ahead Makes All the Difference

80 Day Obession requires more than just workouts – it demands planning. I’ve learned to prep my meals, schedule my workouts, and lay out my gear the night before. That way, when my alarm goes off, there’s no decision fatigue. No excuses.

I also meticulously track everything: my weights, calories burned, RPE (rate of perceived exertion), matabolism data from my Lumen, and even my body composition metrics. Tracking keeps me accountable and helps me see progress that the scale along can’t show.

Progress Isn’t Just the Scale

Yes, I want to lost the extra 15 pounds – but I’ve discovered that progress is about more than just a number. It’s about feeling stronger, having more energy to play with my kids, and knowing I’m showing up for myself every day.

Some days the scale doesn’t move, but I celebrate small wins: lifting heavier weights, finishing a workout with better form, or simply showing up when I didn’t feel like it.

Accountability Is Everything

I couldn’t do this alone. I’m part of a Facebook group with my neighbors, and we post our sweaty selfies every single day. That community has kept me going on days when I would’ve easily talked myself out of pressing play on my workout.

There’s something powerful about knowing you’re not in this alone. When you feel discouraged, someone else is right there reminding you why you started.

When I Feel Like Quitting

There are mornings when I feel like throwing in the towel – especially when I’m sore or exhausted. That’s when I remind myself:

“You don’t quit when you’re tired, you finish what you started”

This mindset, paired with scripture, helps me push through: “But those who hope in the Lord with renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

Faith fuels my perseverance, reminding me that strength doesn’t just come from me – it comes from God.

Tips for Other Christian Moms Starting 80 Day Obsession

  • Find your best time of day. For me it’s 5 a.m. before my family wakes up. For you, it might be during nap or after bedtime.
  • Track your progress. Don’t just rely on the scale. Use a journal, fitness tracker, or even a simple spreadsheet.
  • Build community.  Whether it’s a Facebook group, a friend, or a neighbor, accountability changes everything.
  • Fuel your body wisely.  Plan meals that support your workouts and keep you energized.
  • Keep your faith at the center.  Lean on scripture and prayer when the workouts get tough.

What I do (and What I Don’t Do)

I’ve learned the importance of grace and balance in this journey. Here’s how I approach 80 Day Obsession:

    • I DON’T deprive myself of food or joy. I DO weigh my food and use my Lumen to make sure I’m eating the right things at the right times.
    • I DON’T obess over the number on the scale. I DO track other body metrics (inches, strength gains, calories burned).
    • I DON’T beat myself up if I miss a workout or slip on nutrition. I DO give myself grace and get right back on track after a slip up.
    • I also pray for strength and endurance when I feel weak.

One last thing – celebrate the small wins. Lifting heavier, finishing strong, having more energy with the kids – these are all HUGE wins!
